President Joe Biden announced with certainty that Vladimir Putin had made the decision to invade Ukraine, would attempt to take the whole country, and would make his move within a certain timeframe. We’ve witnessed an unprecedented public use of declassified intelligence by an American president in a strategy to counter Vladimir Putin. Was it effective? Where did that intel come from? What are the repercussions of public disclosure on our sources and methods? Deep beneath the surface of the Ukraine – Russia battle, there’s another battle taking place; a battle of spies, counterspies and hackers. And an American president has faced some of the toughest intelligence and counterintelligence decisions in modern history.
MSNBC National Security Analyst and former FBI head of Counterintelligence, Frank Figliuzzi, will walk us through the clandestine components of America’s support of Ukraine including: The expulsion of twelve Russian officials at the UN for conduct “outside the scope” of their duties; how decisions are made to expel and not expel certain intelligence officers; the impact of such decisions on American personnel abroad; the FBI’s role against the Russian target inside the U.S.; the U.S. intelligence community’s capabilities in supporting an insurgency in Ukraine; and, the cyber attack decisions that President Biden must calculate for the first time in our history.

Frank was formerly the FBI’s Assistant Director for Counterintelligence directing all espionage investigations across the U.S. government, frequently briefing the White House, Congress, the Attorney General, and making numerous national media appearances. He served as on-scene commander of the largest HAZMAT evidence recovery effort in FBI history at the Boca Raton, Florida site of the nation's first anthrax murder. Frank has been featured in documentaries & news shows explaining the FBI’s successful operation against Russian sleeper agents in the U.S.
