Lawrence Husick is a patent attorney, computer hacker, professor, and counter-terrorism researcher at the Foreign Policy Research Institute in Philadelphia. Last year, an investment management firm tasked him with creating a briefing about the status of cyber operations in international relations. The precise question the firm asked was, “Please discuss anything that is timely in cyber threats, cybercrimes, cyberwar, cyber spying, and cyber terrorism. Perhaps you can provide some history, what’s new, the latest and greatest cyber threats, the threat to our elections, the role of state sponsored cyber-terror versus other rogue actors, the real threat of 3rd world terrorist organizations utilizing 1st world technology and how that all relates to each one of us and how we can better protect ourselves.”
On March 3 Mr. Lawrence will address these questions, and yours, as he helps us to make sense of how computers, networks, smart devices and dumb people make our security less stable.
Lawrence Husick is Co-Chairman of the Foreign Policy Research Institute’s Center for the Study of Terrorism where he concentrates on the study of terrorist tactics and counterterrorism strategies, with a focus on technology leverage as a defining characteristic of the modern terrorist.
Mr. Husick’s computer-related experience includes his work as co-founder and principal system architect of Infonautics Inc. which originated the Electric Library and Encyclopedia.com on the World Wide Web, for which he was awarded five US patents. He has been a consultant to both government and private organizations as a systems analyst and design engineer. Mr. Husick holds a B.S. degree cum laude in Environmental Chemistry from Muhlenberg College and a J.D. from the Washington College of Law. He is the founder of Lipton, Weinberger & Husick, an intellectual property and technological law firm, and has served as Senior Legal Fellow at Apple.
